BE AGGRESSIVE:

The best strategy is to file for the divorce first. This creates a psychological and procedural advantage.  Before serving your soon-to-be ex-spouse with the divorce papers, it is advisable to copy and protect important documents, such as: retirement and investment records, current and past tax returns, employment records, health and insurance documents, home mortgage or rental leases, credit card information and bills, passports and social security numbers.  I would also suggest obtaining a copy of the hard drive of the computers used by your spouse.  Email me or call me any time at 517-347-7700.

TAKE THE ADVANTAGE:

It is advantageous to continue being aggressive after the divorce is filed. First, asking the court for an immediate freeze on all unusual asset transfers is prudent.  Sometimes the spouse, upon learning that a divorce has been filed, may try to secretly liquidate the marital assets. Your spouse may also try to isolate or secret the children.  A temporary order issued before the spouse learns of the divorce will keep the status quo on the bank accounts, retirement funds and credit card accounts and the residency of the children.  That order to "freeze" the marital assets would be served upon the bank and institutions maintaining the accounts before the spouse found out about the divorce. DON'T GIVE UP:
